Design and branding for livestreams and video recordings
Design and branding play an important role in any livestream or video recording. For us, this covers both visual elements such as logos and name titles (lower thirds), as well as the production design side of a livestream or video recording.
Introduction
Design and branding play an important role in any livestream or video recording. For us, this covers both visual elements such as logos and name titles (lower thirds), as well as the production design side of a livestream or video recording — think about the overall structure of the broadcast.
Good design is essential to achieving the right look and feel that suits the subject of the broadcast and, of course, meets your requirements as a client. At VidéPro, we consider this enormously important — and it's also what makes our work so enjoyable. Every broadcast is unique, and we love thinking creatively to help deliver the best possible result.
What does design and branding include?
Design is a broad concept, and we can handle most elements in-house. We also incorporate design into our production schedule, so it's always clear which element appears at which point in the broadcast. Below are some examples of the design elements we offer:
Countdown clock
By arrangement, we open the livestream a set number of minutes before the broadcast actually begins and display a countdown clock. We almost always add a music track underneath. This is useful for testing whether the picture and sound are working, and since participants often join early, it's helpful for them to already be "in" the broadcast. The countdown clock is included in the price of the livestream.
Cold open
This is an element that falls under production design. Once the countdown clock has finished, a presenter appears on screen — positioned slightly differently within the studio — to deliver a welcome or brief introduction. This is followed by the leader, after which the broadcast proper begins in the studio.
Leader
This is an engaging video with a fitting music track underneath. The leader signals that the broadcast is about to begin. Much like all TV programmes have a title sequence that tells viewers the show is starting, a leader creates a sense of familiarity and recognition. If a client already has one, we incorporate it into the livestream. We can of course also produce a leader for our clients (at an additional cost).
Logo
In our view, a logo is an absolute must for any livestream or video recording, which is why we display it on screen as standard. No matter when a viewer tunes in, they'll always know who is behind the broadcast. We do not charge extra for displaying the logo.
Name title
During a broadcast, there are often several people speaking. Using a name title — also known as a lower third or title bar — we can display the name and job title of the person on screen. This introduces the speaker and is also handy for viewers who may have missed their name. Our standard pricing includes name titles in one colour from the client's brand identity.
Bumper
This is a short video (often just a few seconds long) that we show between different items or topics within the livestream. It immediately signals to the viewer that something different is coming up. For example, it's particularly useful when a new guest joins the table — the transition isn't visible to the viewer, and when the bumper ends, they see a fresh setting. A bumper can also feature the title of the next topic. The purpose of a bumper is really to mark a transition within the broadcast.
End credits
Once the broadcast is over, end credits (with or without music) provide a proper closing. The credits can be used to thank viewers for watching, as well as to acknowledge everyone who contributed to making the broadcast happen.
Graphics
In addition to the design elements mentioned above, VidéPro can also help create graphics to be displayed during the broadcast or within a presentation. Small animations can add variety to the broadcast — for instance, a fun celebratory animation when there's something to mark. The possibilities are vast, and we're happy to think along with you about what would work best for your livestream or video recording.
Is design included in the price of a livestream or video recording?
Design is often not included in the price of livestreams or video recordings, but with us, several elements are included as standard. We display the logo throughout the livestream or video recording as a matter of course. In our view, a logo is indispensable for this type of broadcast — it's important that viewers always know who is behind it.
The name titles (lower thirds) discussed above are also delivered as standard in one colour from the client's brand identity, at no extra charge. However, if you'd like the design to be fully tailored to your own brand guidelines, an additional cost will apply. We can take care of this for you, but it's equally fine for it to be supplied by your communications or media agency.
